The Constables’ Committee have tabled an amendment to their own proposition on election dates that would allow elections to take place for all 12 Constables on the same day. An existing proposition, due for debate at the next sitting on 5 June, could set up a four-year term, and a single election day. The report accompanying the proposition says the Constables have agreed that they will resign in 2008 to force a single election which would take place in September, before the Senatorial polls in October and the Deputy elections in November. It also states that five Constables’ terms expire this year, and if they resign by September 2008 they will end up serving just a few months of their three-year term.
Single election for Constables may be held in September
