Top Roman Catholic award for two Islanders

Former head teacher of De La Salle College John Sankey has been made a Knight of the Order of St Gregory the Great, and Age Concern chairman Daphne Minihane MBE has been made a Dame of the same papal order. The awards have been made following nomination by the Catholic Dean in Jersey, Canon Nicholas France, and others and at the request of Bishop Crispian Hollis of Portsmouth. Mr Sankey’s award is in recognition of his education work in the Catholic Church in the Island over the past 47 years. Mrs Minihane’s is in recognition of her voluntary and charity work – including leading the fund-raising for St Mary and St Peter’s Church and for St Thomas’s Church.
