Cricket:Springfield celebrate as losing sequence ends in Senior Cup

Springfield defeated Caesareans by 49 runs at FB1 while OVs won by a dozen runs against St Ouen at Grainville.

Springfield opener Peter Canham this morning said: ‘We’re still celebrating, I think out last top flight win was against LS Insurance back in the year 2000, I’m pretty sure it was I remember being captain that day.

‘We’ve had a few years in the old Division II and one year we went unbeaten but that was down a division.

‘The lads are delighted, our objective this season was to score 200 runs in a game, bowl a team out and win a game – and we’ve achieved all of that in the same game.

‘We’ve worked hard on fitness under Jason Carpenter since early January and it has paid off.

Captain Simon Parker and Kevan Crowell batted well at the end to get us over the 200 mark but we were assisted by Caesareans conceding 50 extras.’ Caesareans newcomer Peter German top-scored in the match with 59 runs.

German’s half century came up in 103 minutes off 83 balls.

Parker played a captain’s innings with the ball too, taking four wickets for 28 runs in his eight overs.
