When the work is complete, what will be a grass mound will replace the existing scaffolding stands. The mound is being built in front of the current stands. The Jersey Race Club is constructing an elongated building that will house the Tote, toilets and other facilities under the mound. When the development is completed, the grass mound will be the only part of the new building that will be seen from the sea. Jersey Race Club secretary Josephine Reed said: ‘It’s very environmentally friendly,’ adding that building work should be finished in June, but it will be some time after that that the mound can be used. Grass will need to be grown and the mound allowed to settle before racegoers can watch the races from it.
