When my father was 95 I thought that he was really old,’ she said. ‘I can’t believe I’m going to be 100.’ Mrs Standfield is a little anxious, however, about her approaching birthday. ‘I don’t want any kind of fuss,’ she said. ‘I was brought up on a farm – my father was a farmer. I just did housework and helped out. I didn’t do anything famous.’ ‘Well, she’s our star!’ said Mary Crowther, deputy head of Pinewood residential home on Mont Millais, where Mrs Standfield has lived for eight years. ‘She’s always happy and with friends – she’s enjoying life.’
