Café lease is at your convenience

Proprietor Sean Murphy has decided to call it a day to concentrate on running the Lamplighter pub in Mulcaster Street, where he also holds the licence. Mr Murphy is also reducing his commitments for health reasons. The al fresco café has been blighted by problems since the parish decided to convert the Victorian toilets as part of the £500,000 regeneration of Broad Street. Its opening was delayed for three months over the summer of 2005 because the converted public convenience, ironically, had no toilets. After ‘two loos’ were installed nearby, the café finally opened in October of that year. But, as a seasonal outlet, it closed them again just two weeks later.
