States axe falls on Scrutiny chairman

He lost the vote of no confidence – brought by Deputy Sarah Ferguson, who seconded his nomination to the role 15 months ago – by 27 votes to 18, with three abstentions. Five of the seven members of the committee had signed the no-confidence motion against him, citing problems with his management style and his tendency to keep bringing items back to the committee if he disagreed with the decision that had been made. Deputy Duhamel’s replacement at the head of the Scrutiny Chairmen’s Committee was due to be selected this morning. After formally resigning after the debate, Deputy Duhamel hinted that he might be a candidate.
