The damage has shocked and appalled those who use the beauty spot near Archirondel. Jan Hotton, of St Martin, said that she had been walking her dog on Sunday when she came across the damage and rubbish strewn around the cross. ‘There were all these plastic bags full of lager bottles,’ she added. ‘I think they must have had a party. They had lit the barbecue at the base of the cross. ‘I was furious, absolutely furious. It just showed such disrespect.’ She added that other dog-walkers were equally appalled.
