Let’s get tough on litter says Constable

As butts are discarded in big numbers around town following the imposition of the ban on smoking in enclosed workplaces, Simon Crowcroft said that people must take more responsibility for their actions. This morning the Constable saw the hundreds of cigarette butts left in the tree planter outside the Exeter pub in Queen Street and described the sight as ‘a disgusting state of affairs.’ Mr Crowcroft said that the mess could not necessarily be blamed on pub customers, because there was a cigarette receptacle on an outside wall there and anyone passing or sitting on the bench could have been responsible. Mr Crowcroft is contacting Magistrate Ian Le Marquand, police chief Graham Power and Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf about the issue.
