Thousands of cheques have been sent out over the last two months, and Income Tax Comptroller Malcolm Campbell says that anyone who thinks that he or she might be due a refund should contact the department. ‘It is far, far more than we normally send out,’ said Mr Campbell. ‘It is something we have never done because people used to pay us exactly the correct amount. ‘It is a completely new additional workload we are having to deal with, but which we are happy to do because if people want their money back we shall give it to them. Some people quite like to get a cheque at this time of year.’
