Dairy move takes Deputy to South Africa

Dairy move takes Deputy to South Africa

Members will debate plans to change a covenant put on the land at Howard Davis Farm – one of many gifts to the Island by TB Davis – during their sitting tomorrow. The change would allow the Jersey Dairy to build a modern plant at the Trinity site, and sell their current Five Oaks site. After the family of TB Davis raised concerns about the changes to the covenant, Deputy Le Fondré flew to meet them in Cape Town with Property Holdings assistant director Paul Tucker to try and get their backing for the move. Representatives of the family signed an agreement saying they were happy for the dairy to be moved to the Howard Davis Farm site on a 99-year lease, and for the rental income to be put into a trust to be spent in line with the wishes of TB Davis. The Howard Davis Farm site was just one of the gifts left to the Island by TB Davis, who made a fortune in the shipping trade. He also gave the Island Howard Davis Park, the Howard Davis Theatre and Jersey’s first motorised lifeboat.
