It is a story that Margie Geddes, who died late last year, wanted kept secret until after her death. For decades, she was having a clandestine affair with poet laureate John Betjeman. In last week’s edition of The Spectator, Mrs Geddes’ son Andrew, who lives in the UK, revealed details of the love story. She first met Betjeman in 1929, when she was 20 and he was a teacher at the prep school attended by her brothers.
