Cab drivers reject joint booking plan

The head of the Jersey Cab Drivers Association says an Islandwide joint taxi/cab booking system will not work, and has defended the system that allows restricted taxi cabs to run from depots, and controlled taxicabs to operate from public ranks. Sean Courtney has written to all States Members to complain about the Transport Minister’s plans set out in the Draft Integrated Travel and Transport Plan for Jersey Action Plan 2007-2011. He backs proposals to crack down on public rank drivers hiring their plates out for profit and a dress code for drivers, but says Deputy de Faye should listen to the professionals and drop plans for a joint booking system.
