Plans go in for new £75m incinerator plant

The Transport and Technical Services Department, who want to build a two-stream plant and make use of the Jersey Electricity Company’s chimney, are currently asking for an outline planning permit. The plans were shown to some States Members yesterday morning and the department intend to hold public events to put forward the proposals and answer questions. Transport Minister Guy de Faye said he realised that a minimal number of States Members would have a different view about the way the Island’s waste should be dealt with, but the Island could not afford to put off the construction of the new energy-from-waste plant. ‘We could have built the plant seven years ago and saved at least £20 million. We must therefore build a plant while the going is good as far as the price is concerned,’ he said.
