Waste managers at Transport and Technical Services said that the little cog-like pellets flooded over a filter screen during a ‘surge’ following the power cut on Christmas Day. Transport chief John Richardson said that the accident posed no bacterial or health risks, even though solid matter had escaped into the sea.
