Six-hit St Saviour reach Trinity Shield final again

The 2004 and 2005 winners brushed aside Grouville 6-1 at Les Quennevais after Craig Leitch and Jordan Docherty each scored twice with Luc Le Mière and Jack Cannon adding singles.

Grouville’s consolation was the fourth goal of the game when Richard Stevens netted on the break just before the hour mark after taking a pass from Wayne Shales.

St Saviour manager Ian Corfield said: ‘Full credit to Grouville they made a good fist of it but once our third went in they were never in it after that.

‘Carl Scott was outstanding in our defence, his positioning, tackling and heading ability was absolutely superb throughout.

‘We now have the final to look forward too but we’re disappointed that it is on Tuesday week and not next Tuesday as has been the case in previous years.

‘For some reason there’s a league match next Tuesday and when the final is on some of our lads will have returned to university!’ St Saviour will also be without goalscorers Leitch and Docherty as they will be on a holiday.

Corfield said Jack Cannon’s goal last night was a fabulous strike while Leitch’s second was the funniest he had seen for years as Grouville goalkeeper Andy Clarke fell over his own feet coming to collect a pass and then Leitch nearly missed the opportunity because he was laughing so much! Grouville manager Andy Cadoret said: ‘After having a couple of chances cleared off their goal line we then made two bad errors and were punished for doing so.

‘Unfortunately an injury put us down to ten players for the final 18 minutes and all the chasing we did on a heavy pitch on Saturday caught up with us and we looked very tired in the end.

‘St Saviour are a very good side and they have a great chance of going on to win the competition.’ The second semi-final is tonight at Les Quennevais between St Ouen and holders St Clement, kick-off 7.30 pm.
