Second-hottest July on record

Second-hottest July on record

The UK recorded an average temperature of 17.8?C last month – the hottest ever recorded.

Jersey’s figure was above that at 20.8?C, and just a shade off the Island’s all-time record of 21?C in July 1983.

It has meant sunburn and heatstroke for Islanders, who despite the warmer weather were spared the problems that plagued central London.

Sunshine and high temperatures caused electricity cuts in the capital, and shop owners and office managers were urged to switch off power-hungry air conditioning to reduce demand.
