Prison for heroin smugglers

Dean Ely (29) was jailed for seven years and Gaynor Robinson (38) for 4 1/2 years after they admitted smuggling heroin into the Island on 11 February.

Robinson’s sentence was reduced because she made a statement against Ely and told police that she would have testified against him if the case had gone to trial.

They were stopped, searched and questioned at the Airport on arrival and were detained for X-rays and a medical examination.

Robinson had eight packages of heroin concealed internally and Ely had one.

The packages contained a total of 271.56 gm of heroin with a Jersey street value of £231,360 but a UK wholesale value of just £10,862.
