And the Jersey trio were delighted to come out on top in the challenge, beating Gwen de la Mare, Jean Simon and Jacqueline Nicolle, 18-10, to keep their hopes of a place in Thursday’s quarter finals very much alive.

The fifth-round match in the women’s world outdoor championships was really won over the first three ends, when Dingle’s team posted a devastating 3-4-2 sequence to lead 9-0.

The subsequent strategy involved holding on to that advantage for the next 15 ends.

To Guernsey’s credit, they made sure that shots were hard to come by, and Jersey were restricted to singles – seven of them – and one double, against Guernsey’s three doubles and four singles.

Jersey have a rest day today and will complete their group programme with what should be an easy match against Japan tomorrow, when they will be hoping to win by as many shots as possible to boost their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage.

At present they are level with Israel in second place, behind defending champions New Zealand.

Israel have to play Japan and Zambia, so the Jersey team will be hoping that Zambia can beat the Israelis, and that Japan can give them a close match.
