Thumbs up for Jersey Royal!

Mr Stein arrived in the Island yesterday for three days of filming for the third series of the BBC television series Food Heroes.Describing his passion for the first Royals of the season, he said: ‘I love Jersey Royals.

At that time of the year there is not a better potato in the world.’Despite this emphatic endorsement, the purpose of Mr Stein’s visit is to fish for bass and to highlight Jersey’s cultural and gastronomic diversity.

Last night found him sampling octopus and cataplana at the Portuguese Club and today began with bacon rolls at the Hungry Man at Rozel. This hearty traditional British breakfast set him up for a day off the Island’s east coast, first catching sand eels for bait at La Rocque before sailing for the Ecréhous to fish for bass.

His first trip to Jersey rounds off tomorrow with a visit to the Fish Market. The film footage will be broadcast next February and Jersey Tourism, who organised his accommodation and itinerary, welcomed the opportunity to promote Jersey on prime-time television at such an important time in the tourism year.
