Garden project will fail without Tourism cash

Their request for money from the Tourism Development Fund has already been turned down twice, but the group are hoping that the recent increase in interest and support for the project will be enough to sway the result.Former Senator Pierre Horsfall will be among those presenting the case for supporting the gardens to the board tomorrow morning, as will Island gardener Judith Quérée.For Mr Horsfall the project is an important part of the Island’s history and if it does not go ahead it would be a golden opportunity lost.To restore just one side of the valley will cost an estimated £1.6 million and the group are looking to get as much money as they can from the board to get the project off the ground.

Mrs Quérée is heading the fund-raising effort for the restoration and she said that the initial underpinning and structural work was going to cost £300,000.
