Tribute to Jersey’s former link with UK government

The former Attorney General and Leader of the House of Lords collapsed at his home on Saturday, the day before Jersey’s new liaison to the UK, David Lammy MP, arrived in the Island for his first official visit. As a junior Home Office minister, Lord Williams was given responsibility for links with the Channel Islands, and also held roles as an opposition spokesman on legal affairs and Northern Ireland after he was made a life peer in 1992.

He was also a former lawyer and deputy High Court judge.Former Senator Pierre Horsfall, who negotiated with Lord Williams on the Island’s behalf as the president of the Policy and Resources Committee, said he had always looked after Jersey’s interests.

He added that he had been not surprised when Lord Williams had been promoted to Attorney General, but that he felt at the time that Jersey had lost a good friend.
