Jersey to host land conference

Representatives from the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and the Channel Islands will be meeting to exchange ideas and information about the impact of new technology on property conveyancing and land registration.

ersey’s registrar of deeds, Jeannine Hume, explained: ‘Given that the era of electronic property registration is already upon us, in one form or another, the aim of the conference will be to explore how technology is changing the way in which land and property registration systems work, and how this impacts on the various stakeholders in the process.

These conferences are an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and gain insight into how land registration and property conveyancing differs in the various jurisdictions.

A pre-conference presentation for local practitioners is to be held on Wednesday, 24 September, at 2.

0 pm, when registrars from Scotland and Dublin will be explaining recent developments.

The conference continues on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 September at the Société Jersiaise in Pier Road, with an introduction by the Master of the Royal Court, Advocate John Wheeler, followed by an opening address and welcome by the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache.

he conference will conclude with a visit to Registry, and to the Royal Court to experience the traditional Friday afternoon passing of contracts in the French language.
