River Vah to test Jersey anglers

Graham Carver, Greig Brown, Gary Crisp, James Letto and Eddie Reid will represent the Channel Islands in the competition which takes place on the River Vah, near Piestany, 70 km from Bratislava. The event is a five-man team and individual contest fished over the weekend of 13 and 14 of September, preceded by five practice days on the venue. Some 37 teams will be taking part and most of them are likely to find the Vah an extremely challenging prospect. At 70 to 90 metres wide and up to four metres deep with a flow rate that can vary considerably, the conditions will be something most of the Jersey anglers have not encountered before. The competition will be of a high standard with the main contenders, England, Italy and France, along with Slovakia and neighbouring countries, having the best knowledge of the venue.

However, the Jersey anglers are hoping to give a good account of themselves.Recent visits to France by squad members Graham Carver, Greig Brown and Mel Hales, to fish in high level competitions, has provided experience that will be valuable to the team as a whole.

The measure of success that all three enjoyed demonstrated that Jersey anglers can compete at a higher level. The team will take a large amount of bait and tackle which means travelling overland collecting most of the groundbait on the way from their main sponsors Sensas Grounbaits in France.

The team are also supported by Falles Van Hire’, Ferryspeed CI, JFS Sport and Fin & Feather.
