Janvrin’s Holdings Ltd – who brought the restaurant and demolished it in March 2000, sparking public outrage and a legal battle with the then Planning and Environment Committee – have been granted permission to build four dwellings on the site.The application from the company, which is owned by developer David Sheppard, for three three-bedroom homes and a two-bedroom unit has been approved and has been described by the Environment and Public Services Committee as ‘broadly in keeping with the size and scale of the original development’.Planning director Peter Thorne said he hoped that the approval would mark the end of the legal battle.
But he denied that the committee had caved in by allowing building work to go ahead.
