Snake thief gets a lift home – from the police

They spotted the 17-year-old walking the streets with the boa constrictor during the early hours of Sunday morning and offered to take him home.After doing so, they called the Zoo to see if there had been a break-in and staff reported that all was well.Appearing in the Youth Court this morning the teenager, from Queen’s Road, was fined £100.

He was arrested after he took the snake back to the Zoo on Sunday morning.Advocate Kate Berry, representing the youth, said that when her client woke up in the morning and realised what he had done, he contacted the Zoo to report the incident.Chairman of the panel Ian Christmas told the youth that he had been foolish.

‘It seems to us that you need to make your peace with the Zoo and see what you can put back into their system,’ he said.
