If the States agree, GPs will be given the power to prescribe nicotine patches and other devices which help people quit smoking.St Saviour Deputy Alan Breckon is asking for the move as an amendment to the Tobacco Strategy and says that financial assistance should be given to those trying to stop smoking.’I believe that to be effective, any strategy must include the ability of general practitioners to prescribe items which assist people to stop smoking,’ he says in the report accompanying his amendment, which was lodged with the States today.
