Police test new video camera to deter speeders

It comes in the form of a video camera fitted to the front of a patrol car, linked to a Vascar speed detection system, which is in use by forces throughout the UK.Motorists can be caught and their speed instantly recorded and shown to them.During the trial nine motorists were caught speeding, one at almost twice Jersey’s top limit of 40 mph.Chief Superintendent Lennie Harper said: ‘Our most recent figures have shown a near 25 per cent cut in the number of road accidents with injuries in Jersey.

It is clear that this equipment has the potential to be a valuable tool in our efforts to continue this success.’
