The fact that every float was present on the journey to the arena was due, in part, to the willingness of some exhibitors to share much-sought-after flowers with others who were experiencing ‘bloom blues’ caused by the heat. The smooth ride of the exhibits to their first base at Millbrook Park this morning was a good omen for the rest of the day.Honorary police co-ordinator Mitch Couriard said that the lack of technical problems showed that float builders were paying even more attention to the importance of a reliable chassis and associated safety issues.Despite the major problems caused to exhibitors by the recent intense heat which tended to shrink blooms and result in more being needed, exhibits co-ordinator Bob Pallot described this year’s standard of work as ‘brilliant, with a few special surprises’.
