A breath of not-so-fresh air

The heatwave is taking its toll on two areas of shoreline and under the streets.

At La Collette’s green waste site, the hot weather is causing the waste to decompose much more quickly than usual – while not far away, at the waterfront’s rock embankment, trapped seaweed is decomposing.Public Services are trying to improve the situation at La Collette by transporting the green waste to farmland as quickly as possible, and this appears to be working. However, the seaweed is more tricky due to the current calm sea state, which means that there is little hope of the tide carrying it away.Added to these two problems is the possibility of increased sewer smells due to very low flow levels caused by the exceptionally dry weather.
