With navigator Dave Simpkins, from Hayling Island, alongside Smith led the other eight boats from start to finish in the ten lap, 74.74 nautical mile race.
Nearest rivals for the championship, Martyn Rendell and Kevin Rendell from Taunton in Pattern Forme C10, finished third.Smith said: ‘Although it might have appeared to be a calm race from the beach, the outer parts of the course were choppy and I had to work hard to keep the lead.
Dave navigated superbly from the front, and we couldn’t have achieved a better result’.
Race five is at Poole over the weekend of 16 and 17 August.Result: 1, Commodore Ferries; 2, Lamco Design; 3, Pattern Forme; 4, It Wasn’t Us.
