P&R: It’s the best deal we can get

The controversial deal is the best available in the public interest, insisted Senator Walker, who added that the committee’s hands have been tied by legal considerations.Les Pas Holdings have been offered a prime waterfront marina site – on which to develop at least 100 three-bedroom apartments with underground parking that will sell for about £40 million – to drop their case laying claim to the foreshore from Havre des Pas round to Castle Street.

Senator Walker, in today’s JEP Saturday Interview, says his committee members believe they have no option but to try to resolve the issue in the public interest. He described the Les Pas case as like ‘having been passed the poisoned chalice’, leaving the committee with no alternative other than to accept the legal advice that has been given.’This was an unbelievably unpopular position for all members of P & R that we could have well done without, but we could not turn our backs and walk away,’ he said.
