Nixon bids for fifth Champion of champions title

The round-robin competition involves the champions of six Island bowls clubs and the current champion begins his defence at the Sun BC at First Tower tomorrow at 6 pm.Postman Nixon (31) is going for a fifth consecutive win.He said: ‘It’s a tough tournament and I’m looking forward to it, like I do with all matches.

I’m playing well so hopefully I can win it again.’Nixon puts his continued success on the greens down to plenty of practise and keeping himself fit in the gym.He added: ‘That’s the beauty of my job, I get the afternoons off so there’s plenty of time to practise and go to the gym.

To do well I need to get off to a good start and if I do that I see no reason why I can’t win again.

There are some good Club champions this year, it will be a challenge and one I’m looking forward to.’Further matches, all one game up to 21 points, continue all day on Saturday at the Sun BC at First Tower before concluding on Sunday at the Jersey Bowls Club at Westmount, the final matches beginning at 2 o’clock.Nixon, of the Jersey Bowling Club, is up against John Skelley (Les Creux), Cyril Renouf (Post Office), Con O’Callaghan (St Brelade), Kevin Gray (St Saviour), Allan Quémard (Jersey Bowling Club) and Ray Le Cornu (Sun).Spectators are welcome at all venues.
