High-speed car chase driver jailed for a year

The incident which had led to his arrest was described by Assistant Magistrate Ian Christmas as ‘possibly one of the worst examples of bad driving that, in my experience, there has ever been in this Island’.With smoke coming from the wheels and sparks flying out from the bottom of the car, Sean Christopher Byrne rammed a police car, crashed into a wall, drove on the wrong side of the road, mounted the pavement and collided with parked cars before he could be arrested. In court yesterday, Byrne (22), of St Saviour’s Road, asked to be given a sentence of between six and 12 months so that he could sort out his drug problem and ensure he did not offend again.

He was sentenced to a year in prison for dangerous driving, taking and driving away and failing to stop and report four accidents that night.
