Waste watch’ to monitor States

The so-called ‘Waste Watch’ has been set up outside the assembly’s jurisdiction by a group of ‘like-minded’ politicians, who are determined to expose money-wasting projects. They have already identified a number of areas of waste within public administration, and say that, if stopped, these would save the taxpayer over £6 million a year. They describe this as ‘just the tip of the iceberg’ and have promised confidentiality to public servants who want to spill the beans to help the working party’s cause.Waste Watch has not been established by the States assembly itself and therefore it has no legal powers.

But spokesman Senator Ted Vibert pointed out that its political members were all entitled to access States documents, such as minutes and contracts.Waste Watch comprises Deputies Geoff Southern, Alan Breckon, Gerard Baudains and Rob Duhamel, and Senators Ted Vibert and Paul Le Claire.
