Jersey shooters continue good form

In humid conditions the Jersey shooters had to contend with a teasing mirage, which was mostly tricky to read.

The mirage, or heat haze as it is more commonly known, was drifting from right to left and back again and so the coaches were forced to constantly adjust the shooters’ sights.Although conditions varied for each shooter, in-form Jersey captain Colin Mallett top-scored for the Island team for the second successive match.

Close behind was Island Games gold medallist Peter Stock who scored 148 out of 150, dropping two points in his last two shots.A jovial Wally Langley, re-hydrating after the match, commented: ‘We’re in full training on Frosties and doughnuts.’Today Jersey compete in the ‘Opening Shot’, the traditional curtain-raiser to the Imperial Meeting.

Over 100 teams are expected to be competing in this long-range rifle match.Later in the day the JRA take on the London and Middlesex Rifle Association in the annual inter-club match.

They will be competing for the Anstey Trophy in a Queens II course of fire at 300, 500 and 600 yards.Victoria College cadets fire in the Ashburton and Old Victorians in the PS Veterans Match.
