WEB chairman ‘should have declared interest’

The report by the Policy and Resources Committee concludes that Mr Bralsford should have withdrawn from the selection process when it emerged that there were business links between Coolwater and Ann Street Brewery.P & R’s report shows that despite his role as chief executive of CI Traders – the parent company of Ann Street – Mr Bralsford continued to play a role in the selection process after the links were made known.Meanwhile, Mr Bralsford’s resignation as chairman of WEB has been announced.

He is to stand down when his term of office expires on 20 August.P & R president Senator Frank Walker told the States today that the decision was completely up to Mr Bralsford and added that all P & R members had nothing but the highest regard for the WEB chairman and the work he has done on behalf of the public. The report – presented in the form of answers to questions submitted by Senator Stuart Syvret – also clears all WEB members, including the chairman, of any question of impropriety. However, Senator Syvret is not satisfied and today lodged a proposition seeking to force the handover of key documents that P & R say are confidential to WEB and the companies involved.
