Accident boy (9) airlifted to UK hospital after accident

The boy, whose name has not been released, was knocked from his bike in Rue de Prés, near Meadow Park, at around 8 pm yesterday.

He suffered serious head injuries, as well as back and leg injuries.Initially, he was rushed to the General Hospital, but it was decided he had to be moved to Southampton Hospital’s paediatric intensive care unit.A spokesman in Southampton said that the boy’s condition was being assessed today and a statement would be released later giving his condition.P insp Mark Houzé said the boy was cycling with a friend and attempting to turn right when he was in a collision with a van driven by a 19-year-old man.The boy’s friend was unhurt, but suffered severe shock.Insp Houzé added that the van driver had stopped and ‘done everything right’ after the accident.Police investigators have examined the scene and are trying to piece together what happened.And a force family liaison officer has been with the family since the accident.Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact police headquarters on 612612.
