Sailors pleased with team bronze

The event, split into laser standard and laser radial, saw no individual medals but a solid team performance from all four sailors.Jeff Speller came closest to a podium finish for Jersey, placing fourth in the standard rig, while Joel Lucas was seventh in the same discipline.

In the radial rig, Martin Speller won the last race to boost his final position to tenth while David Carter capped a consistent week by finishing eighth.Carter said: ‘We had a good day on the water today.

The radial fleet has been very tight, there hasn’t been much in it between most of the competitors.

We did better in the breeze but we also had races where it’s been light and shifty’It’s been a week that’s had its ups and downs, but on the whole I don’t think we’re disappointed with the way it’s gone – we’re pretty pleased.

We were looking for a team medal but I think it’s been a lot tougher than in the Isle of Man two years ago.’We didn’t win any individual medals, but to be honest it was a big ask in the first place.

The team performance has been good and it shows our strength in depth.’
