Connex train woes no threat to buses

An arm of the group that runs Jersey’s buses has had its franchise to operate rail services in Kent and Sussex taken away due to poor performance and financial mismanagement. However, in Jersey, the Connex bus service is performing in line with its tender expectation, said Alan Muir, the director of traffic and transportation at Public Services.

He said that there is no connection between the rail company and the Jersey bus company, which are separate business units although part of the overall Connex group.’I would suggest they are meeting service levels here.

We have received few complaints and that would suggest they are operating well,’ said Mr Muir.Environment and Public Services president Deputy Maurice Dubras said that Connex’s Jersey operation is run by management in France – its main base – and the company have ‘very good experience’ of running bus services in Normandy and in parts of Brittany. The Deputy, who was speaking from St L? where he is part of a delegation meeting the Conseil Generale de la Manche, said details of a new Connex ferry link between Jersey and Normandy were due to be outlined later today.
