JEP KO cricket: Centurions march on

Division II table-toppers Centurions recovered from their mid-week defeat to win a close game by five wickets at Les Quennevais. The result was determined in the last two overs of the match with the Centurions attack bowling with discipline and accuracy to contain the St Ouen batsmen. In foggy and murky conditions, Rob Tewkesbury looked in fine form for St Ouen but he played on in the third over for 20 while Peter Brooks took the wicket of danger man Ward Jenner (27).Stuart Ramskill (23 not out) and Danny Blasco (13 no) scored a flurry of twos and fours in the closing overs as St Ouen posted 132 for 4 in 15 overs.Grant McKeever (18) and Elanco (14) gave Centurions a solid start while anchor man Matt Smith batted steadily to score 40 and ensured that the run rate remained manageable in the final overs.Centurions skipper Joel Richardson, batting at six, hit a quickfire 33 not out from 14 balls and scored a boundary to secure a semi-final spot for his team.In the other quarter-final Chris Searson blasted a superb century to set up a 47-run victory for St Helier RFC against St John at Grainville.Searson hit 101 off 72 balls with fellow opener Grant Phillips (28) and Dave Workman (20 no) playing the supporting role as St Helier posted 163 for 2 from 15 overs.Fine bowling from Thomas (2 for 17) and Phillips (3 for 19) restricted St John in their run chase as they came up 47 runs short with only Robert English making a sizeable score with an unbeaten 33.In a re-scheduled second-round match at FB Fields Abacus defeated Jersey Academicals by 17 runs.Abacus won the toss and elected to bat, making a good start with Richard Robinson and Peter Canham putting on 56 for the opening stand with Robinson scoring 72.Alan Lesbirel and Myles West kept the score moving along with West making a quickfire 38, which included three consecutive sixes.

The pair added 74 from the last five overs.Chasing 173 for victory Jersey Academicals made a flying start with openers Andy Gibbs, who made his debut for the Channel Islands Over-50s on Wednesday, and Paul Dicker combining for 122.Gibbs remained unbeaten on 89 but once Dicker was out for 36 the momentum was lost, although Accies were always slightly behind the require run rate of 11 per over.
