Warm weekend could see mercury hit 25C for some but wind and rain in Scotland

Parts of the UK can expect balmy temperatures of 25C this weekend – but other areas will be bashed with rain and wind.

The south east of England will be the best spot for sunseekers, while the north west of Scotland could be hit with wet weather and severe gales of up to 60mph.

Highs of 23C are expected in the South on Saturday, according to Met Office meteorologist Helen Roberts.

But the forecaster said wind in Scotland could cause localised disruption to transport, particularly for ferries.

On Sunday, the rain in Scotland is expected to move southwards across the rest of the country and then into northern England by the end of the day.

Ms Roberts said Sunday will remain fine and dry in the South, with temperatures of up to 25C expected in the South East.

“Much of next week is looking generally fairly quiet and settled,” she added.

Temperatures are expected to dip early in the week, before climbing again towards the end of the week – possibly back up to 25C.
