Businesswoman wins States seat in St Helier by-election

Deputy-elect Gardiner claimed the single seat by more than 60 votes from their nearest rival Reform Jersey candidate Lyndsay Feltham

The by-election in St Helier No 3/4 was called following the death of popular Deputy Richard Rondel in November after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Ten candidates put themselves forward for the seat with the results being declared at Rouge Bouillon School shortly after 9.20 pm.

Despite weeks of campaigning and door-knocking, 18.65% of the electorate in the districts turned out to cast their votes.

Deputy-elect Gardiner is due to be sworn in at the Royal Court on Friday.
