THE Chief Minister has said he “looks forward to continuing to engage closely” with the UK government following the latest British and Irish Council summit.
Deputy Lyndon Farnham was in Edinburgh recently alongside other representatives of the Crown Dependencies to meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the heads of devolved nations and the Irish government.
The 42nd summit was a chance to “advance ties”, said Deputy Farnham, who represented Jersey alongside External Relations Minister Ian Gorst.
Members discussed international trade, EU relations and energy.
Jersey’s Carbon Neutral Roadmap and Sustainable Finance Action Plan were included on the subject of “Financing a Just Transition” on the agenda, the government said.
Deputy Farnham said an update was also given on the government’s Common Strategic Policy, the cost of living in the Island and Jersey’s “successful” Moneyval report.
The Chief Minister said: “I was very pleased to meet the Prime Minister. Jersey, and the Crown Dependencies, are fully supportive of the UK’s global trade agenda and the benefits it can bring to the wider British family. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the ongoing work in this area, as well as the UK-EU reset, and Jersey looks forward to continuing to engage closely with the Prime Minister and the UK government as this work progresses.”
