Nature Watch: March (Wetlands, ponds and reservoirs)

To encourage you to go out and make the most of the Island’s natural assets, the JEP is running Nature Watch, a monthly photographic competition and online picture gallery.

Each month we will print your best nature pictures and also share them here on our website. And one winning photographer will receive a printed canvas of their image, courtesy of Framing Workshop.

Use the form below to upload your best pictures.

This month’s theme: Wetlands, ponds and reservoirs

Just think of St Ouen’s Pond with its ducks, geese, coot and the odd grey heron.

The reservoirs at Queen’s Valley and Val de la Mare, too, are good for a variety of waterfowl and are known to give shelter for other birds such as gulls and cormorants.

March also offers a green light to amphibians in and around freshwater ponds so keep the camera handy as toads and newts start to get seasonally amorous.

And don’t forget the waterside trees, shrubs and vegetation as buds and catkins start to burst through and wild flowers such as celandines and violets begin to show their true colours.
