Football: Red-hot support for Les Bleus

Born in Saint Brieuc, Salaun is eager for the hosts to ‘set an example’ when they face Romania in the tournament curtain-raiser in Paris. The likes of Germany, Spain, Italy and even England will be out to spoil the party when they begin their campaigns over the weekend, but the former Jersey Wanderers man hopes the excitement that followed France’s 1998 World Cup success can be rekindled.

‘Being the host nation, I think France have got a great chance,’ said Salaun.’We have been scoring quite a few goals in the last few games.

‘You need to start off with a win to take that pressure off, and France will be going out to win against Romania. That will set an example and hopefully teams will then go out there with the mentality of attacking.’
