Athletics: Wait 24 years for one … and get two!

Not since Mike Guegan’s appearance at the 1994 Games in Edinburgh has an Island runner competed on a senior global stage, but Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey selectors now have two names to consider alongside that of discus thrower Zane Duquemin.

Dorey broke Guegan’s Jersey Spartan AC 1,500m record with a 3 min 45.44 sec run at a BMC meeting in Stretford, while Dawkins stormed under the 48-second mark for the first time with a blistering 400m outing in Belgium. Dawkins’ achievement is all the more impressive given that he broke his leg in December.
