Football: Jersey to face Republic of Ireland after England C test

Martin Cassidy’s men are due to meet the Republic’s Regions Cup squad on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June in Cork and Limerick respectively, with the games potentially acting as a precursor for an annual tournament.

Jersey FA vice-president Iain MacKenzie plans to organise a four-team event from 2018, with select sides from Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Panjab FA all likely to be involved.

The first fixture is scheduled to take place just four days after Jersey face England C – a match boosted in stature by the donation of a new trophy.

The Jacksons Trophy will be the prize on Tuesday when Paul Fairclough brings England’s most promising non-League players to Springfield.

The JFA have also confirmed a scheduled return for Leicester City U23s after the Premier League club expressed interest in flying back for a pre-season tour. The Foxes will meet Jersey’s men again on Monday 10 July.
