Rugby: Reds focused on Irish, not the table

The Reds host the promotion favourites at St Peter tomorrow, knowing time is running out for them to force their way into a play-off position before the end of the regular season.

The sides will meet again eight days later in Reading, for the British and Irish Cup semi-finals.

Currently fifth in the league with three games to play, Jersey are six points adrift of fourth-placed Doncaster Knights, and seven behind Ealing in third, who have played a game more. If the Islanders were to take no league points from tomorrow’s clash, a bonus-point win at Cornish Pirates for Doncaster on Sunday would assure them of a place in the play-offs and leave Jersey desperately trying to catch Ealing.

However, Harvey Biljon says his team aren’t thinking about league position but are instead focused on the challenge that Irish will bring.

1-15: Jake Woolmore, Joe Buckle, Simon Kerrod, Pierce Phillips, Dave McKern, James Freeman (capt), Gary Graham, Nick Haining; Joel Dudley, Callum Sheedy; Nick Scott, Kuki Ma’afu, Jordan Davies, Ross Adair, Jack Cuthbert.

Replacements: Sean McCarthy, Nick Selway, Jake Armstrong, Uili Kolo’ofa’i, Max Argyle, Kieran Hardy, George Eastwell.
