Football: Leicester City to play in Jersey

The Champions League quarter-finalists confirmed details of the friendly to Jersey FA vice-president Iain MacKenzie yesterday, with Leicester’s interim first-team boss Craig Shakespeare giving the game his blessing before flights were booked.

Finding opposition who view a trip to Jersey as worthwhile has been problematic for the JFA in recent seasons, but Leicester will use the friendly as vital preparation for a home league clash with Manchester United U23s on 10 April. They will have been without a competitive game for almost a month by the time they travel to the Island.

‘Getting a high-profile club like Leicester over is fantastic; it will be a great fixture for us,’ said MacKenzie. ‘They had more coverage worldwide than anyone last year because of their fairy-tale story in the Premier League and they became everyone’s second-favourite club.’
